Hear the Week's Best New Canadian Music: TOBi, Metric, Charmaine, Terra Lightfoot

BY Exclaim! StaffPublished Oct 13, 2023

No matter how you feel about Friday the 13th, it's safe as anything to say that Canadian musicians have decided the spookiest square in the calendar is a highly coveted release date. Seriously, there's an overwhelming amount of new music out today all across the board.

Where to begin? Probably not under a ladder. Charmaine brings the nothing-can-touch-me vibe to the theme song for Bria Mack Gets a Life, and relishes the protective powers of "Big Mack" energy.

Let's waste no time diving into all of these album releases — there are so many to keep track of. TOBi finds strength in vulnerability on PANIC, and Metric expand the Formentera universe by turning a church into a studio to record Formentera II.

Brand new LPs also come from Terra Lightfoot, Yukon Blonde (Shuggie), Land of Talk (Performances), Helena Deland (Goodnight Summerland), Faith Healer (The Hand That Fits the Glove), MUNYA and Laur Elle. Moreover, Astral Swans & Chad VanGaalen, Hanorah, Fern Sully and Shiv and the Carvers all shared new EPs.

Elsewhere, Wyatt C. Louis makes his Royal Mountain Records debut, Hot Garbage turn off their alarm clocks and Said the Whale are so totally '90s, while Sam Jr hits the wavesElephant Stone light "The Spark," and Corb Lund has that "Old Familiar Drunken Feeling."

Keep your luck close to your chest with The Eh! List below, presented by Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters — all Canadian and proud of it!
