Though I may be the messenger, this haterade column is brought to you by every member of the Exclaim! editorial team, since we were all just forced to hear this song through my shitty laptop speakers. Experimental freak-folk/baroque pop/whatever-you-want-to-call-them sisters CocoRosie released their album Little Death Wishes today (March 28), and a particular clunker track comes with a little help from Chance the Rapper.
"Girl in Town" starts with the line "All the schizophrenics at the picnic," which sets the tone for how the rest of the song is going to go. CocoRosie keep it steady with a Blaccent thinly-veiled as indie girl voice, and their retired wife guy feature spits bars that the one kid in Grade 7 who aspired to be a rapper would come up with during recess.
At least CocoRosie aren't using kid's instruments anymore, but this isn't much of an improvement anyway. We're sure they'll be around when 2013 quirkiness comes back into the trend cycle, but until then, we remain unimpressed.
