Roots songwriter Corb Lund has announced his latest album. El Viejo is out on February 23, 2024, through New West Records, and a video for the single "Old Familiar Drunken Feeling" is out now. He's also hitting the road for a Canadian tour in early 2024.
The album pays tribute to Canadian singer-songwriter Ian Tyson, Lund's friend and mentor, who died in late 2022.
"It's a lot of minor keys and gambling songs, is what it is," Lund said in a press release. "It was just a few of us in my house. No studio. No outside producer. No adults in the room. No stress."
He continued, "There's not a single electric instrument on the whole thing, just acoustic sounds and singing." All of the songs were captured live in a single room, with lots of bleed between microphones, and some songs recorded in just one take.
