Matty Healy Addresses Noel Gallagher Calling Him a "Slack-Jawed Fuckwit"

"The difference between me and Noel is that I do a series of interviews to promote an album, whereas he does an album to promote a series of interviews"

It looks like the mard between Matty Healy and Noel Gallagher is somewhat one-sided.

In a very on-brand move, Healy opened for his own band, the 1975, in Dublin tonight after Caroline Polachek had to cancel last minute. In between debuting some new songs and covering Colin Hay's "I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get over You," the musician took the opportunity to respond to Noel Gallagher's distaste for him.

To recap: the feud began when Healy demanded the Gallagher brothers quit "marding" and get Oasis back together. Months later — suspiciously close to the release of his album Council Skies — Noel called Healy a "slack-jawed fuckwit" and said, "he needs to go over how shit his band is and split up." He doubled down in a later interview, calling the 1975 "shit" and "certainly not rock."

Instead of clapping back with an equally funny insult, Healy stated how much he "loves" Noel, though not without throwing a little shade:

Noel Gallagher called me a "slack-jawed fuckwit." I love Noel Gallagher. We asked Liam to open up and he said he would have done it but he was busy. But I love Noel Gallagher, give it up for Noel Gallagher. He's just getting on … The difference between me and Noel is that I do a series of interviews to promote an album, whereas he does an album to promote a series of interviews. But we love you Noel, get Oasis back together!

Healy also detailed the outpour of support the 1975 has gotten from other musicians in the wake of Noel's comments. "Today — honestly, this is not a namedrop, this is a celebration of them as people — Chris Martin and Bono have sent us the most beautiful messages, packages, kind of good wishes … in honestly such a genuine way and it made us feel so beautiful."

For the record, Noel does have other means of promoting his interviews — like mediocre covers of iconic songs, or being an old man who yells at clouds.
