In a remarkable display of pseudo-animal kingdom synergy, Gorillaz have joined forces with Thundercat for new song "Cracker Island."
Following 2020 LP Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez and 2021's surprise Meanwhile EP, the fictional band's new single was produced by Greg Kurstin, Gorillaz, and Remi Kabaka Jr.
Amid touring Europe, they've also been asking fans to join something totally non-dodgy called "The Last Cult." Cartoon bassist Murdoc Niccals is the "self-appointed Great Leader" of what is, again, apparently a cult?
"It's nice to be back, I'm well into our new tune," singer 2-D added in a press release. "It brings back weird and scary memories of stuff that hasn't happened yet."
As one would probably expect from this pairing, the track is funky as hell (and also silly), featuring an oil-slick bass groove.
Listen to "Cracker Island" below.
Gorillaz will embark on their first North American tour in four years this fall, including stops in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.
