Though embroiled in "torture porn" controversy, The Idol — the HBO show from the Weeknd and Euphoria's Sam Levinson — is coming nonetheless. The series, which we've been hearing about since 2021, has finally set a premiere date.
Starring the pop star, as well as Lily-Rose Depp, Troye Sivan, Dan Levy, Moses Sumney and more, the star-studded show will be streaming via the newly rebranded Max (and thus hopefully Crave in Canada) on June 4. The Idol will premiere out-of-competition at Cannes International Film Festival a few weeks beforehand.
The news comes alongside the first new teaser for the series since last October, which presents an overview of Depp's transformation into a "truly fucking nasty, nasty, bad pop girl" and includes a brief montage set to "Gimme More" by Britney Spears.
