To the surprise of almost no one, Sam Levinson's massively successful teen drama Euphoria is coming back for a third season after the series was renewed earlier today by HBO.
The Zendaya-starring Emmy-winning show got the greenlight for Season 3 in the midst of its ratings record-setting second season, which aired its most recent episode on Sunday (January 30). Episode 5 is scheduled to air on February 6.
"Sam, Zendaya, and the entire cast and crew of Euphoria have taken Season 2 to extraordinary heights, challenging narrative convention and form, while maintaining its heart," said Francesca Orsi, EVP of HBO Programming [via Deadline]. "We couldn't be more honoured to work with this gifted, wildly talented team or more excited to continue our journey with them into Season 3."
The series also stars Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Eric Dane, Angus Cloud, Barbie Ferreira, Dominic Fike and Austin Abrams, all of whom are likely to return next season.
That is, unless there's an unexpected death or two — hopefully not drug-related — between press time and the Season 2 finale, which airs February 27. Fingers crossed for Euphoria lovers that the turn-around between seasons is shorter next time; the two-year gap between Season 1 and 2 must've been brutal.
