Lee Ranaldo has shared details of a new solo album. The Sonic Youth guitarist will release In Virus Times on November 12 through Mute

The instrumental In Virus Times will now arrive as an album after first being published this past February as a single piece alongside two short stories by French author Lucien Jean.

Now split into four parts in its album form, In Virus Times is said to be "an acoustic instrumental piece that explores the sense of motionless time through sparse, meandering melodies and spacious chordal drones."

Ahead of the album's arrival, you can hear an excerpt of Ranaldo's latest below, and can pre-order the album in digital and physical editions here.

In Virus Times follows last year's Names of North End Women, which Ranaldo recorded with flamenco guitarist Raül Refree. It marks his first solo outing since 2017's Electric Trim, which was his first LP for Mute.

Throughout the pandemic, numerous archival releases from Ranaldo and Sonic Youth have wound up on Bandcamp.
