Kimmortal Doesn't Need Your Validation on New Single "i like what i like"

Vancouver's Kimmortal has released a new song, "i like what i like," the first peek into their upcoming EP Shoebox, arriving July 7. The song is about being yourself and celebrating your differences.

Kimmortal first debuted the song in 2021 at the Vancouver International Children's Festival. They said of the experience: "I took this as an opportunity to speak to kids about what it means to be me. I said: 'I'm queer, I'm brown, and I'm nonbinary and I'm proud to be who I am. The song I'm going to play for you today is basically about how whatever makes you different, is your power!"

On the track, Kimmortal showcases their talent for connecting with young audiences and empowering young people to embrace what makes their individuality. The song draws inspiration from the documentary How We Got to Sesame Street, which recounts the origins and impact of the TV series.

This follows the 2022 singles "Sad Femme Club," "K I'm Mortal," "This Dyke," and their 2019 concept album X Marks the Swirl, which was long-listed for a Polaris Music Prize.
