Vancouver's Danielle and Drew McTaggart — a.k.a Dear Rouge — have officially unveiled the details of their forthcoming third album, as well as having shared a brand new video for the LP's latest preview "Small Talk."
The long-awaited follow-up to 2018's Phases, Spirit is slated to be released on April 8 via Pheromone Recordings.
Taking a more grassroots approach to instrumentation, as well as striving for raw, authentic reflections, the McTaggarts recruited a list of already-familiar collaborators to help them hone in on the intimacy — including Broken Social Scene's Brendan Canning, Daniel Klenner of Peach Pit, Jordan Klassen and former tour-mate Lights, who features on Spirit's penultimate track "That's It, That's All."
Following lead single "Fake Fame," acoustic-led "Small Talk" captures this sonic evolution from the quintessential grit and gloss of the duo's last album. According to Dear Rouge, the track "asserts how the reality of the world right now has changed our needs, as we are all aching for authentic connection," they shared in a press release. "We don't have the time or space for 'cheap love.'"
Directed by Lindsey Blane, the clip captures the monotony of the titular social rite and how reflexive and trance-like it can feel, as Danielle's fellow party-goers wear deadened expressions with their white t-shirts, moving only in unison.
