Last night in Chicago, Danny Brown and Rico Nasty participated in Red Bull's battle of the band-style showdown, SoundClash, with the former performing a cover of Korn's 1998 classic "Freak on a Leash."
The cover is by no means any good, however, it is a spirited and enjoyable piece of throwback art by Brown, whose vocals have been compared to that of Squidward on Twitter since footage of the event has surfaced online overnight. Thankfully Brown's vocal chops were not tested in the song's scatting verse, as it appears the rapper enlisted a be-dreaded Jonathan Davis cosplayer in a tracksuit— or J. Dav himself? — for that.
The whole thing goes down in about as greasy a fashion as you'd expect, which is honestly the best we can hope for given the circumstances; rapper covers nu-metal at an event sponsored by an energy drink — you can practically smell the late '90s from here.
Can we grade the performance well? No. Should you still hear it? Definitely yes. Watch the madness unfold below.
