Weezer have just announced a new album, as well as the sprawling "Hella Mega Tour" with Green Day and Fall Out Boy.
Weezer's next album is called Van Weezer, and it will arrive on May 15 via Crush/Atlantic. What's more, Weezer have also given us the new album track "The End of the Game," which has arrived alongside a new video.
Down below, you can watch the clip for "The End of the Game," as well as check out all the dates on "The Hella Mega Tour." Weezer, Green Day and Fall Out Boy play Toronto on August 24, making for the only Canadian date on the tour.
The three bands are celebrating the tour announcement tonight with a special show at the Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles. The general on sale for all shows begins September 20 at 10 a.m. local time.
As for Van Weezer, the album was produced by Suzy Shinn and stands as Weezer's 14th studio album.
A press release explains the following of the upcoming record:
The inspiration for this album derives from the deepest roots of Weezer — metal! What has metal got to do with Weezer, you ask? In his earliest years, Rivers was a huge KISS fan; Brian was a big Black Sabbath fan; Pat worshipped at the altar of Van Halen and Rush; Scott loved Slayer and Metallica. The last time this vein of harder rock was mined by Weezer was on their much-loved 2002 album Maladroit; Van Weezer is primed to take that album's sonics many steps further courtesy of producer Suzy Shinn.
And while Van Weezer is set to arrive on May 15, the band have stated the following: "Right now the tentative release date for the album is set for May 15th. We know it's a ways away, but hey this is rock'n'roll and we're making our own rules (aka we just might release it sooner)."
Right now, you can also pre-order Van Weezer in multiple bundles.
The album follows the group's The Black Album and the covers collection The Teal Album.
In addition to Weezer announcing a new album today, Fall Out Boy unveiled their new record Greatest Hits: Believers Never Die - Volume Two (out November 15 via Island Records), while Green Day revealed the band's Father of All... (out February 7 via Reprise/Warner).
