Tegan and Sara Don't Understand Why Ticket Resale Sites Exist

"I can't resell a plane ticket. I can fly, cancel or change it after I buy."

All anyone wants to get is a little bit closer to their favourite artists. Tegan and Sara have offered you such an opportunity by weighing in on the music industry discourse du jour, including (but not limited to) the Ticketmaster Problem — which is also all about trying to get closer.

No musician seems to stir up this conversation more than Taylor Swift, who effectively broke the ticketing platform with the first chaotic Eras tour presale last November. Fans trying to buy tickets for the pop star's newly announced string of six Toronto shows — the only tour stop in Canada — are experiencing similar issues, even if the Ticketmaster website doesn't seem to be crashing this time. (See? They did a thing!)

Pretty much everyone you know got waitlisted after registering for Ticketmaster's Verified Fan system, which is supposed to ensure actual fans get first access to tickets instead of scalpers. The concerts haven't even gone on sale to the general public yet, but Stubhub already has resale tickets listed for thousands of dollars.

"Am I dumb? Why are there ticket resale sites for concerts?" Tegan and/or Sara tweeted. "I can't resell a plane ticket. I can fly, cancel or change it after I buy. I can't re-rent my rental car. Or re-rent a hotel room. Like wtf." Points were made!
