Ava Maybee is the daughter of Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, and she's previously covered one of her dad's band's songs. Audiences could be hearing a whole lot more of her soon, since she's taking part in the new season of American Idol, and she just successfully passed through the first audition round.
Maybee auditioned for the show in last night's episode (March 28), in which she sang Stevie Wonder's "Lately" for judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
It's unclear if the judges knew about her connection to RHCP, but Richie indirectly referenced her dad when he said, "I'm going to go against your family. You're not going to be a 'maybe,' you're going to be a 'for sure.'" Perry and Bryan then both called her "Ava Yes."
Maybee now passes on to American Idol's next audition round in Hollywood, CA.
