Ava Maybee is the daughter of Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer (and renowned Will Ferrell lookalike) Chad Smith. She's also a musician in her own right, and now she's paid tribute to her dad's band by covering one of their songs.
On Instagram, Maybee posted a clip of herself performing the RHCP single "Universally Speaking" from 2002's By the Way. She reinvented the song as a stripped-down piano ballad (and, if you listen faintly, there appears to be a faint atmospheric backing track). Listen to her cover down below.
In addition to covering her dad's song, Maybee has also been penning her own original material. She released her new single "Colors" earlier this month.
Red Hot Chili Peppers, meanwhile, have reportedly finished their new album, so Maybee will soon have a whole new batch of songs to cover. There's still no confirmed release date, although guitar John Frusciante's barber claimed the record would be out this summer.
