Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis has become the latest rock star to launch his own coffee brand, as he's teaming up with Live Nation to launch a canned coffee geared toward concerts.
Kiedis is launching JOLENE alongside his friend Shane Powers. Live Nation is an investor and distributor for the brand, similar to the partnership the promoter has with celebrity water company Liquid Death. There will be two flavours — Black (cold brew) and White (oat milk latte) — which will also be used to make cocktails.
Billboard notes that JOLENE will launch at Live Nation-run festivals, plus 40 of the company's amphitheatres. The brand name is a portmanteau of the words "Joe" (as in "coffee") and "lean" (as in low-fat milk), as well as Dolly Parton's song "Jolene."
Kiedis said in a statement about founding JOLENE, "Shane shouted at me down the sidewalk 'Let's do something!' I shouted back 'how 'bout coffee'? He said 'done.' And so began the adventure of putting a high-quality spin on a can of coffee."
It's not immediately clear if JOLENE will be available in Canada, or if it's starting as a US-only product.
