Patrick Watson has shared a cover of Charles Trenet's classic French song "Que reste-t-il de nos amours?" through Secret City Records almost 80 years after the original was released.
Written by Trenet in 1942 and originally performed with pianist Léo Chauliac, Watson recorded his cover after watching François Truffaut's 1968 film, Baisers volés.
"[The] lyrics made me think of the pandemic," Watson explained in a statement. "I instantly knew I had to cover it. This song is a good summary of what people are feeling right now, which is what I wanted to share."
Watson's version follows covers by Frank Sinatra, Marlene Dietrich, Barbra Streisand, Sam Cooke, Bing Crosby, Michael Bublé and many more.
