After taking a major loss in a legal battle with his former Sex Pistols bandmates over the rights to use of Sex Pistols songs in Danny Boyle's Pistol series, John Lydon — a.k.a. Johnny Rotten — is now complaining once again, this time about the release of The Original Recordings, a companion compilation album due to be released in tandem with the show.
Lydon took to social media yesterday (March 30) to voice his concerns about the record, which will be released on May 27 via Universal Music Group.
He wrote in a tweet: "Universal Music Group have announced the release of a new Sex Pistols compilation entitled The Original Recordings. For the avoidance of any doubt, John Lydon has not approved this compilation and does not endorse or support it. He has not approved the artwork or tracklisting."
A second tweet continues: "He and his team were not involved in producing this compilation and consider it substandard compared to previous Universal releases since 2012."
The album features 20 tracks spanning recordings from 1976 to 1978. A tracklist can be seen below, alongside Lydon's message of disapproval.
Pistol arrives on Disney+ on May 31.
