As modern audiences continue to giving Haruomi Hosono some much-deserved respect, the Japanese musical innovator's elusive Harry & Mac album Road to Louisiana is finally getting a reissue.
On June 12, Hosono's much-loved 1999 album with Makoto Kubota will finally get its first-ever reissue. Road to Louisiana will be arriving on vinyl and digitally as part of Record Store Day Japan 2021, Pitchfork points out.
For the unfamiliar, Road to Louisiana stands as the only collaborative effort Hosono and Kubota and was inspired by the '70s sounds of New Orleans. Over the years, it has attracted quite the cult following, including some major props from Kurt Vile, who once told Exclaim! of his love for the blues-geared album.
In addition to redone versions of various Hosono classics, the album features several Kubota-led tracks, as well as their co-written original "Night Shades."
The original release arrived on vinyl through Epic, and these days — like most Hosono original pressings — fetches quite the pretty penny online.
