Drake Credited with Bringing High-Speed Internet to Pickering

His producer Boi-1da can finally make that Hotmail Bling

Say what you will about Drake, but we probably can all agree that he's done some things. Whether it's a plea to bring back Timbiebs or offering to save Toronto's beloved Jamaican patty establishment, he's not afraid to use his platform to say stuff — and it occasionally leads to actual action.

Case and point: the Certified Lover Boy has now been credited with improving the internet in Pickering, ON, — where his regular producer Boi-1da lives and works from — after calling on the mayor to "set up some stronger Wi-Fi towers" back in 2019. The 6ix God had been characteristically upset when he was "trying to cook up" and needed the producer to be able to send him all of his freshest beats ASAP.

Though Boi-1da was later scheduled to meet with Mayor Dave Ryan about the issue, we hadn't heard much more about the state of the city's connection since that summer was, well, over.

Until now, that is: Bell Canada's pure fibre broadband internet is officially going to implement a new tier of Wi-Fi access for the producer born Matthew Samuels and the rest of Pickering's rural residents, with plans to bring the high-speed optic signal to the area at large over the next three years.

The city shared the news in an Instagram post yesterday (March 29), writing: "Drake's call for better internet in Pickering is answered!"

Drake and Boi-1da celebrated the victory, sharing the post on their Instagram Stories. The beatmaker called the trajectory of the rapper's advocacy-turned-action "[GOAT] behaviour."

In addition to his mission to make good things grow in Ontario, Drake recently teased some "highly interactive" shows in Toronto (and New York, which is close enough).
