Outside of last year's tragic Astroworld festival appearance and post-beef Larry Hoover Benefit Concert with Kanye West, Drake performances have been few and far between since 2020, but according to the Certified Lover Boy, that's about to change.
Over the weekend (March 12), Drake delivered a message to listeners of his Sound 42 radio show on Sirius XM, teasing forthcoming "highly interactive" performances in New York and his home city of Toronto.
"I'm excited to let all my people know we're working on something really special for you guys," he shared. "Putting together two shows, one in New York and a few in Toronto. They're gonna be something different, something I've never done before. It'll be a highly interactive experience."
Drake continued, "My brothers will be there. It's gonna be great to see you all, hopefully, get a chance to speak with you. Hopefully learn a little bit more about each other. So I'll have the dates for that coming soon and I can't wait." You can hear his tease below.
If we were to hazard a guess at what Drake is teasing, a return of OVO Fest could be a smart bet. Drake first launched the label-branded event back in 2010, and it took place in Toronto over the civic holiday/Caribana weekend each year until 2017. While OVO Fest did not take place in 2018, the event returned to Toronto in 2019.
Drake's OVO Fest performances are known to feature guest appearances by famous friends and contemporaries including OutKast, the Weeknd, Eminem, JAY-Z, Lil Wayne, Nas, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar.
OVO Fest 2019 saw Meek Mill, Rick Ross, Cardi B, Offset of Migos, Lil Baby, Gucci Mane, DaBaby, Tyga, YG, Popcaan, Megan Thee Stallion and Chris Brown share a stage with the 6ix God.
Previously, Drake mused about bringing OVO Fest to the Big Apple while onstage at Governor's Ball in 2015, telling the crowd, "I might have to bring OVO Fest here. I might have to bring Kanye out that motherfucker. I might have to bring Beyoncé out."
On 2017's More Life mixtape, Drake also pondered organizing an OVO Fest around his stadium-sized ambition, writing on "Do Not Disturb," "Might move our annual shit to the 'Dome / I need 40,000 people to see what I'm on."
Last year, Drake made History in opening a new concert venue in Toronto's East end. Offstage, he's recently campaigned to save a staple restaurant in his city and land a WNBA team in Toronto.
