Childish Gambino Releases Violent New Video "This Is America"

The video portrays explicit gun violence perpetrated by Donald Glover himself

Actor/musician Donald Glover (a.k.a Childish Gambino) is hosting and performing on Saturday Night Live tonight, and he just released a disturbing video for a sinister new song called "This Is America."

The track begins as a joyous Afro-soul number, as Glover dances energetically in a big, empty warehouse. It's not long before things takes an extremely dark turn involving some graphic gun violence perpetrated by Childish Gambino himself. The song then turns into an ominous rap banger.

This unsettling beginning sets the tone for the rest of the song and video, which alternates between upbeat dancing and shocking violence. Directed by Hiro Murai, it seems to be a commentary on the gun control debate that has been raging in America in recent months.

This is Glover's first single since his acclaimed 2016 album Awaken, My Love! His new album plans remain unclear, but he previously promised that he has new music on the way and he's also got a tour coming up in September. See the dates here.

Childish Gambino's previous album Awaken, My Love! is available via Umusic as a standard LP, CD or VR vinyl box set.
