Ahead of releasing debut album Anywhere but Here early next year, TiKA has shared a first single from the effort.
The Casey MQ-produced "Sideways" arrives today alongside a video directed by Naska Demini you can find below. Shot in black and white, the accompanying visual aims to explore both "fantasy in Blackness, including the beauty of Black intimacy and Black queer intimacy."
In a statement, TiKA explains the personal nature of "Sideways," stemming from a falling out with a friend that made her feel unbalanced and insecure. She explains how her music helped guide her forward as follows:
At the intersections of the pivotal & life-changing moments that we face, we can feel unsteady. Uncertain for the future. The one thing that I could always count on to hold me was music and freedom. Music to guide my steps, freedom in the reality that I was indeed human and flawed. Despite the remorse, I was encouraged by the fact that there may be room in every heart for reconciliation and redemption.
Anywhere but Here arrives February 26 through Next Door Records.
