Over the no-man's-land that is the days between Christmas and the new year, Emerald Fennel's Saltburn got uploaded to Prime Video, expanding its already massive audience. Of course, TikTok has took the opportunity to do what it does best: catapult songs from its soundtrack back into popularity.
Set in 2006 and 2007, much of the film's soundtrack pays homage to indie sleaze and the disco-tinged dance hits that led to it. While Bloc Party, MGMT, and the Killers all make appearances, two tracks in particular have seen a massive resurgence: Sophie Ellis-Bextor's 2001 hit "Murder on the Dancefloor," and Mason and Princess Superstar's collab, "Perfect (Exceeder)."
In fact, "Murder on the Dancefloor" has made such a comeback following its feature in the film's concluding, NSFW scene that it made it to Spotify's global chart with 1.428 million streams on New Year's Eve (December 31) — three of which streams occurred at a party this writer attended.
Ellis-Bextor responded to her track hitting the chart for the first time on Twitter X, writing, "Wow.. thank you for all the Murder love [sic]. Happy new year!"
Speaking of parties, the use of "Perfect" in Saltburn's Midsummer Night's Dream-themed party has made it the track of choice for TikTok thirst traps, and Princess Superstar is basking in it. She's made a few videos acknowledging its resurgence, claiming the track has made it onto the UK pop charts 17 years after its release.
Now, all we need are the pair's reactions to the bathtub scene.
