I Want Shiv and the Carvers' "Danger Girl" to Ruin My Life

Exclaim! Staff Picks

It's Class Of season here at Exclaim!, and it's hard to believe it's been only a year since we saw the likes of Shiv and the Carvers tearing it up with the rest of the 2024 roster following the release of their debut EP, Physical Capital. After a busy year, the band have now announced that record's follow-up, Tell Me You Love Me Again, out March 14 via their new label home at Twin Fang, and are previewing it with the chant-along lead track "Danger Girl."

Fittingly, it arrives alongside a Scott Pilgrim-inspired music video shot at some familiar locations. The anthemic pop-punk ripper could just as easily be inserted retroactively between "Black Sheep" and Sex Bob-Omb in the soundtrack's liner notes, as it could top the soundtrack of your kickboxing class. If neither floats your boat, you can instead reminisce about the time you let that girl ruin your life.

"'Danger Girl' is a queer love song about falling in love with a woman that you know is going to break your heart," vocalist Shiv Scott shared of the track. "The 'Danger' is the gamble of getting your heart broken, but knowing that it's worth every bit of pain. I was very inspired by Wheatus's 'Teenage Dirtbag,' blink-182's 'Josie,' and other '90s/2000s songs about women who are out of the singer's league."

Oh, also, Bif Naked guest stars in the music video. She's joined by an array of local Toronto legends in members of Roach, Burner, Dermabrasion and Camille Léon. Check it out below.
