Continuing to add to his filmography, Metallica frontman James Hetfield has been cast in forthcoming dark western thriller The Thicket.

Deadline reports that the adaptation of Joe R. Lansdale's novel of the same name stars Peter Dinklage, who is also producing. Production is presently underway in Calgary.

Said to be "a longtime passion project" for Dinklage, The Thicket also reportedly stars Juliette Lewis, Esmé Creed-Miles, Levon Hawke, Leslie Grace, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Macon Blair, Ned Dennehy, Andrew Schulz and Arliss Howard.

While it's unclear what Hetfield's role will be, The Thicket follows protagonist Jack (Hawke) on a quest to rescue his sister Lula (Creed-Miles), who has been kidnapped by violent killer Cut Throat Bill (Lewis).

For the trek after Cut Throat Bill into a no-man's land known as the Big Thicket, Jack forms a crew of his own, enlisting bounty hunter Reginald Jones (Dinklage), a grave-digging alcoholic son of an ex-slave (Akinnagbe), and a street-smart sex worker (Grace).

Hetfield most recently appeared in 2019's Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, the Zak Efron-led biographical crime drama about the life of serial killer Ted Bundy. Recent years have seen him lend his recognizable voice to American Dad!, Skylanders and a porn addiction documentary.

Metallica are gearing up to release new album 72 Seasons next month, and detailed a larger-than-life listening event behind the release earlier this week.
