In what might be the most bizarre corporate synergy of all time, the toy-turned-videogame Skylanders is now becoming an animated series for Netflix. And Metallica's James Hetfield is on board to voice a character.
For the uninitiated, Skylanders is one of those games that forces its players to buy real-life toys to unlock other playable characters. Due to the success of that franchise, the new Netflix cartoon will be called Skylanders Academy.
While it's unclear which flying marketing machine Hetfield will voice in the cartoon, he'll join an enormously famous cast that also includes Justin Long, Ashley Tisdale, Jonathan Banks and Norm MacDonald.
The series will also include voice acting from Susan Sarandon, Daniel Wu, Parker Posey, Catherine O'Hara, Bobcat Goldthwait, Chris Diamantopoulos, Jonny Rees, Harland Williams and Richard Horvitz.
Futurama writer Eric Rogers will be the showrunner for Skylander Academy.
