Low's Alan Sparhawk Goes Solo for 'White Roses, My God,' Shares "Can U Hear" Video

It's being billed as his solo debut

Following the tragic death of Low's Mimi Parker in 2022, her husband and bandmate Alan Sparhawk has announced his debut solo album. White Roses, My God is due out September 27 through Sub Pop Records. A video for the single "Can U Hear" is out now.

This is being billed as Sparhawk's first solo album, although he actually released an experimental album called Solo Guitar in 2006. He has also had various solo projects over the years, including the synth outfit the Hospital People, the punk covers band the Tooth Fairies, and an atmospheric collab with violinist Gaelynn Lea called the Murder of Crows.

A press release notes, "There is no question that White Roses, My God is a record borne of grief. However, it would be reductive, even foolish, to see grief as the sole source or the final limit of this taut, brilliant, provocative, thrilling album, whose bold experimentation is powered by profound lyrics and propulsive beats. White Roses, My God is an exorcism whose purpose is not to banish the spirit but to set it free."

White Roses, My God is available to pre-order from Sub Pop. Sparhawk has a tour booked for the fall and winter, but there aren't any Canadian dates just yet; see the schedule here.
