While Kendrick Lamar has received much acclaim over his recent To Pimp a Butterfly LP, a photographer has now accused the rapper of misappropriating one of his images to promote album track "The Blacker the Berry."
BOSSIP [via Pitchfork] reports that photographer Giordano Cipriani filed suit against Lamar on July 10 in New York Federal Court. He claims that Lamar used his "Twins," a picture of a woman breastfeeding infants, without his permission.
The New York-based photographer also named Aftermath, Top Dawg Entertainment and Interscope in the suit, and is seeking damages of $150,000 USD for each time his artwork was used.
The single went up in February, with Cipriani's image being reproduced over mediums including Facebook and YouTube. The song is currently available as a standalone single on iTunes, but Cipriani's photo is not a part of the artwork.
As of press time, neither Lamar nor his record labels have commented on the lawsuit.
