Riot grrrl mainstay Kathleen Hanna is releasing a memoir. Rebel Girl: My Life as a Feminist Punk is slotted for release on May 14, 2024, through Ecco, an imprint of HarperCollins.

The book will follow the Bikini Kill, Le Tigre and the Julie Ruin bandleader's life from her childhood to her career as a musician and activist. It is said to detail her place as a controversial figure in the '90s, the male violence she and her bandmates faced, her relationships with said bandmates, Kurt Cobain and husband Ad-Rock, her battle with Lyme disease and much more.

"It was a lot of work writing this book, I'm not gonna say it was easy," Hanna says in a TikTok about Rebel Girl. "I was a mess! But it was also really awesome, and I got to revisit a bunch of amazing, joyous moments where I lost my creativity and found it back and lost my confidence a million times and got it back."

Beyond her book endeavours, Hanna wrapped up a Bikini Kill reunion tour earlier this year and is currently on tour with Le Tigre. Revisit our review of Bikini Kill's Toronto show.
