Several Canadian artists are raising awareness about the global climate crisis with a livestream event called Climate Live, airing this Saturday (April 24).
Among the dozens of Canadian artists who have signed on to pledge their commitment to climate awareness, 13 acts have announced their plans to participate in this weekend's livestream, which features a variety of artists from across the globe.
On the Canadian side of things, there will be performances by Barenaked Ladies, Scott Helman, the Weather Station, Whitehorse, July Talk, Julian Taylor, Luna Li, Moscow Apartment, Lia Pappas-Kemps, the Lifers, Communism, Veronica Johnny and Braden Lam.
See the full lineup of Canadian artists participating below.
The Climate Live event is being presented by Music Declares Emergency — an organization that's been launched in Canada with the help of Moscow Apartment member Brighid Fry and Caroline Brooks of the Good Lovelies. The Canadian chapter of the initiative launched late last month, and over 200 homegrown artists have cosigned the organization's call to address the climate/ecological emergency.
"Musicians who care about the planet need to be using our platform and influence to talk about this really pressing issue that everyone should be more worried about," Fry said in a press release. "Canada is lagging behind almost every country in terms of reducing emissions. We need to change that. We can also push for the music industry to build back better and address the climate crisis by putting sustainability at the centre of the industry's recovery."
