Grey Lands

'Right Arm' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Sep 4, 2015

Cuff the Duke frontman Wayne Petti unveiled his side-project Grey Lands with an album of covers last year, but the new band are ready to release their first album of original material with Right Arm next week. Before it officially arrives, though, Exclaim! is giving you an early listen to the record in its entirety.

In addition to Petti, the lineup consists of Daniel Empringham and Nick Hind-Knapp, and although Petti also took on the duties of producing, recording and mixing the album, he enlisted some help from Ryan Haslett and Holy Fuck's Graham Walsh.

Harkening back to indie rock's early days, the album offers up a short and sweet series of fuzzed-out, melodic, tap-your-toes-along songs. Back-to-back opening cuts "False Alarm" and "Another Lie" were previously shared, but the garage-brewed aesthetic and back-to-basics catchiness continues on throughout tracks like the aptly titled "Lo-Fi Junkie" and "Arabian Knights." Things get a bit dark and psychedelic on "Go the Wrong Way" before the 30-minute set comes to a crunchy instrumental close with "Collide and Conquer."

You can see the band's upcoming shows at Supercrawl and Pop Montreal listed below, and scroll past the festival dates to give Right Arm its first listen.

Right Arm is out on September 11 through Paper Bag Records.
