Cuff the Duke's Wayne Petti Launches Grey Lands Project, Announces Covers Album Featuring Joel Plaskett, Hayden, Sarah Harmer

Wayne Petti fronts alt-country act Cuff the Duke, in addition to releasing solo music and collaborating with Blue Rodeo, but now he has a new project. His debut album as Grey Lands will be out on August 12 through Paper Bag Records.

The record is called Songs by Other People, and as the title indicates, it's a covers album. These eight covers include songs originally by Bob Dylan, Sloan and Lee Hazlewood, among others. "I wanted to acknowledge where I had been, musically," Petti said in a statement.

Petti is joined here my a host of Canadian music talent, as each track features at least one notable guest. They include Joel Plaskett, Sarah Hamer, Blue Rodeo's Greg Keelor, Hayden, the Inbreds' Mike O'Neil, the Weather Station's Tamara Linderman, Randy Bachman, the Rural Alberta Advantage's Nils Edenloff, and Julie Fader.

According to a press release, "The music is burred and confident, far noisier than Petti's previous work. And his choice of pals gives the material a scrappy quality."

The tracklist is below. The cover artwork, which was designed by PS I Love You's Benjamin Nelson, is above. Scroll to the bottom of the page to hear the Hayden-assisted opening cut "Outta My Head," which is a blearily folksy cover of an M. Ward tune.

The album can be pre-ordered on CD or blue vinyl right here.

Grey Lands will also be playing the Wolfe Island Music Festival on August 8.
