Das Racist

Moving with the momentum generated from their debut, self-released record/mixtape, Shut Up, Dude, earlier this year, Das Racist (a post-academia, NYC-based trio putting out a hybrid of smart/joke rap) are now pushing Sit Down, Man. The 20-track record, presented in part by Mad Decent, is an even more studied, laugh shrouded take on rap in 2010. Balancing old head preferences (boom bap beats, re-sampled lyrics and canonical references) with broader pop life snippets (i.e., borrowing the Days of our Lives theme) means that Sit Down, Man plays out with an early A Tribe Called Quest ease ― remember? When rappers used to talk about going to the bodega and crack "Yo Mama" jokes on wax? Along with in-house production, Sit Down, Man features beats from Boi-1Da ("Hahahaha jk"), Diplo ("You Can Sell Anything") and Teengirl Fantasy ("Commercial"), as well as cameos from Chairlift, Vijay Iyer and El-P.
