claire rousay is sharing her new album sentiment — which sees the ambient artist leaning into more traditional pop songwriting — next week, and today we get a new Broken Social Scene-referencing song called "lover's spit plays in the background."
In a statement about the song, Rousay wrote that it's "about my ego almost destroying a friendship one time. Success obsession and music 'career' mentality will really bring the darkness out of people. Another apology song."
Rousay even nabbed a co-sign from Kevin Drew, who wrote that "lover's spit plays in the background" is a "delicate ouija board of emotion for those who stay up too late."
"lover's spit plays in the background" follows "head" and the Hand Habits-featuring "ily2."
