Ain't nothing better

Looks like we made it to the part of 2023 when strong act-of-the-year contenders boygenius cover a Canadian icon in the midst of her comeback season.

That's right, the supergroup of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus have performed a rendition of Shania Twain's classic slow jam and sweet 16 karaoke staple "You're Still the One" for BBC Radio 1. The boys donned their sick matching jackets to sit oddly far apart in front of a grand piano in a sprawling studio space. Baker even brought out the mandolin to let the counter-melody really sing out. They're ready for the Opry!

boygenius's debut LP the record — which nearly featured an eepy Dave Grohl — has been littered across just about every best of 2023 list, Exclaim!'s obviously being no exception. They were also on the cover of our magazine, the issue directly after the one where we featured an interview with Twain for her album Queen of Me, which likewise came out this year and was paraded around on a massive tour much like the trio's own.

Listen to their take on "You're Still the One" below.
