Aysanabee Details Debut Album 'Watin,' Shares Video for "Nomads"

Aysanabee has lifted the curtain on his debut album. The Oji-Cree, Toronto-based singer-songwriter will share first full-length Watin on November 4 via Ishkōdé Records/Universal Music Canada,

Watin takes its name from Aysanabee's grandfather, who appears in a pair of music videos for songs "Nomads" and "We Were Here," and whose voice can be heard on nine interludes interspersed among the album's tracks.

The details of these spoken interludes are said to be "the sparks that kindle each song's blaze," as Aysanabee channels family, memory and language into a conceptual effort characterized in a release as "immense and intimate." The album's artwork, seen above, was painted by Montina Hussey.

Those feelings are captured in a new video for "Nomads" that you can view below, which splices together footage of the artist onstage and in nature.

Last year, Aysanabee was announced as the inaugural signee to Ishkōdé Records, the label launched last June by Digging Roots' ShoShona Kish and Amanda Rheaume.

This month, Aysanabee has lined up three Canadian live shows in three different provinces, which you can find listed following the album's tracklist below.
