Time has been known to fly, but it has also been known to move like marmalade.

We've known that the third movie in the beloved Paddington franchise was happening since 2018 — the same year the revered Paddington 2 was released — and, in 2021, it was reported that production would begin in early 2022. Later that year, we learned the film's director and title. Now, Paddington in Peru is officially set to begin filming on July 24, Deadline reports.

Like most things about Paddington 3, plot details remain shrouded in the secrecy of the big red hat. As its title would suggest, the third instalment will take place in "deepest, darkest Peru" — the bear's country of birth.

While Dougal Wilson has stepped in to direct as his debut feature film, Paddington and Paddington 2 director Paul King still collaborated on the story with Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton, which informed a screenplay by Burton, Jon Foster and James Lamont.

Deadline speculates that the cast will be a combination of returning players, potentially including Ben Whishaw as the voice of Paddington, as well as new actors. Production company StudioCanal is once again financing the project with Heyday.

Delighting children and critics alike, the previous two Paddington movies made more than $500 million USD between them at the box office. Paddington 2 also held the coveted title of best-reviewed movie of all time for a fleeting but beautiful moment in 2021, so ready yourselves for an Academy Award contender.
