While it was confirmed for production in early 2022, most other details about the forthcoming Paddington threequel have been kept hidden beneath the Peruvian bear's hat. Now, we've been offered a bite of the marmalade sandwich: The Hollywood Reporter has revealed both the title and director of Paddington 3.
Paddington in Peru will be directed by Dougal Wilson, an award-winning commercial and music video filmmaker who will be making his theatrical debut with the fuzzy little guy's homecoming.
Paul King, the original director of the franchise and current beautiful mind behind Timothée Chalamet's Willy Wonka prequel, will be serving as the project's executive producer. It will film on location in both London and Peru, beginning principal photography in 2023.
"After ten years of working on the Paddington movies, I feel absurdly protective of the little bear, and I'm delighted that Dougal will be there to hold his paw as he embarks on his third big-screen adventure," King said in a statement. "Dougal's work is never less than astounding: funny, beautiful, heartfelt, imaginative and totally original. Aunt Lucy once asked us to 'Please Look After This Bear.' I know Dougal will do so admirably."
Based on the story by King and written by Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton, the new film follows 2017's Paddington 2, which managed to oust Citizen Kane as the best-reviewed movie of all time on Rotten Tomatoes for a brief perfect moment in 2021. (Toy Story 2 toppled it about a month later.)
It is unclear whether Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy will return to embody the bear's voice in Ukraine's dubbed version of Paddington in Peru.
