After hinting earlier in the year that she was interested in joining her former castmates for the fifth instalment of the Scream franchise, Neve Campbell has officially signed on to reprise her role as Sydney Prescott in the forthcoming Scream 5.
According to Bloody Disgusting, the film series' star in onboard to join the project alongside previously confirmed cast members Courteney Cox (playing Gale Weathers) and David Arquette (returning as Dewey Riley).
"After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he's created in the Scream franchise," Campbell said in a statement. "I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro."
Radio Silence Productions added: "We're pinching ourselves! It's hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true. It just wouldn't be a Scream movie without Neve and we're so excited and honoured to join her in Woodsboro."
Neve had previously expressed concern about the project following the death of franchise creator, Wes Craven, back in 2015.
Campbell, Arquette and Cox will be joined by new cast members Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. The film will be helmed by Radio Silence's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
Scream 5 is set to be released worldwide on January 14, 2022. The most recent instalment of the franchise was 2011's Scream 4. Campbell, Arquette and Cox have starred in all four movies since their inception in the late '90s.
