Courteney Cox Will Reprise Her Role as Gale Weathers in the 'Scream' Reboot

Courteney Cox is officially reprising her role as Gale Weathers in the forthcoming Scream movie reboot.

Deadline confirmed the news this morning, and spoke with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett's film group, Radio Silence, about bringing her on board.

"We can't imagine Scream without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courteney," the group said in a statement. "We're absolute mega fans of her work and we're so excited to join her in the next chapter of the Scream saga!"

In addition to Cox's involvement in the reboot, franchise co-stars Neve Campbell and David Arquette are also in talks to return. Back in May, Campbell spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her possible involvement.

"We're just in the beginning phases of negotiations, and we'll have to see where it goes with COVID and everything," she explained.

Scream 5 is tentatively scheduled to be released sometime next year, pandemic pending. It will be the first entry in the franchise following the death of creator Wes Craven in 2015. The most recent instalment of the franchise was 2011's Scream 4. Cox has appeared in all four films so far.

Cox announced her return in the best way possible, with a tribute to Ghostface. See that below.
