The beloved Gremlins franchise is getting ready to embark on its new animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, and we're finally getting our first look at the hugely anticipated show.

Today we have received the first sneak-peak image, courtesy of Variety. You can check it out above, though you may need to squint a bit to see lil' Gizmo.

As previously reported, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is set to arrive as 10 half-hour episodes on HBO Max. It's being produced by Warner Bros. Animation, and Tze Chun (Children of Invention, Cold Comes the Night) is said to be tied to the Gremlins series and onboard to write and executive produce.

Director Joe Dante had previously helmed both the Gremlins films.

So far we don't have a premiere date for Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, but it's expected to arrive in 2021.

For now, check out that image above and revisit the show's official synopsis below:

In the animated television adaptation, we travel back to 1920s Shanghai to reveal the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 movie) met the young Mogwai called Gizmo. Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.
