The Live-Action 'Pinocchio' Trailer Is a Real "Oh Boy…"

It's directed by Robert Zemeckis and stars Tom Hanks

The words "live-action Pinocchio" definitely seem like they come from a meta comedy making fun of the film industry and Hollywood's tendency to make reboots that no one wants, but it's extremely real. Pinocchio arrives September 8 through Disney+.

Directed by Robert Zemeckis, it stars Tom Hanks as Geppetto, the woodcarver who makes Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth). The cast is rounded out by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Luke Evans, Cynthia Erivo, Keegan-Michael Key, Lorraine Bracco, Kyanne Lamaya, Giuseppe Battiston and Lewin Lloyd.

The trailer has a distinct lack of Pinocchio and his famously growing nose — but it does have Tom Hanks doing a very earnest reading of "star light, star bright" amidst intensely saccharine orchestra swells. Watch it below.

September 8 is Disney+ Day.
