Sharon Jones will release her first posthumous record with the Dap-Kings next month, and before Soul of a Woman arrives, a video for "Call on God" has been unveiled.
The track was originally written by Jones back in the late '70s for her New York City church choir, the E.L. Fields' Gospel Wonders, and a version of it was recorded with the Dap-Kings in 2007 during the 100 Days, 100 Nights sessions. That rendition was fully arranged by Jones herself and provided the blueprint for the version that will appear on the upcoming album.
Following Jones' funeral service last year, at which the Gospel Wonders performed, the choir members recorded backing vocals for the new take on "Call on God." Their vocal accompaniment has now been paired with matching visuals that show Jones at work in the studio, and you can watch the new clip down below.
As previously reported, Soul of a Woman arrives on November 17 via Daptone.
