Sampha has revealed the title of his sophomore album. This week, the artist shared that the follow-up to his acclaimed 2017 album Process is called Lahai.
UPDATE (9/6, 1:13 p.m. ET): Sampha has detailed the forthcoming release, which is due October 20 via Young. Scroll down to check out the album tracklist, new single "Only," and the tour dates the artist will be playing behind it this year — including a Canadian stop at Toronto's Danforth Music Hall on November 4.
Announcing the title on Instagram, Sampha explained that Lahai is also both his own middle name, and the first name of his grandfather.
The artist wrote, "'Lahai.' My grandfather's name, my middle name, my next musical chapter, my next album. Fever Dreams. Continuums. Dancing. Generations. Syncopation. Bridges. Grief. Motherlands. Love. Spirit. Fear. Flesh. Flight."
LAHAI has yet to receive a release date. Earlier this year, Sampha returned with new song "Spirit 2.0," which marked his first new music in over six years. The song featured musical contributions from Owen Pallett, Yussef Daye, El Guincho, Yaeji and Lisa-Kaindé Diaz of Ibeyi.
Prior to sharing the album's title, Sampha also shared a snippet of himself in the studio recording new material, which you can find following the title reveal below.
Process won Sampha the 2017 Mercury Prize, an annual honour awarded to the UK's best album as voted by an independent panel of judges. It was also voted among Exclaim!'s Best Soul and R&B Albums of 2017.
Sampha recently appeared on Travis Scott's UTOPIA album, and earlier this year, reunited with longtime collaborator SBTRKT on The Rat Road and appeared on a track with Speakers Corner Quartet.
