Prince Po & Oh No

Animal Serum

Seven long years after his last LP, former Organized Konfusion member Prince Po returns to the fray for another full-length mission, this time matching his fiery wordplay to Oh No's equally menacing beat creations for the collaborative effort Animal Serum. The veteran lyricist comes out with guns blazing on "Machine Rages," breaking down all facets of societal disorder for one of the set's most politically charged displays over a stormy guitar and organ combination typical of much of the album's production.

That initial level of verbal aggression is maintained through many of the cuts that follow, as guest MCs Rockness Monsta, O.C. and fellow OK member Pharoahe Monch each snatch the baton and manage the same frenetic pace.

Unfortunately, Oh No elects not to incorporate too many sonic variations in his productions this time around, and while a few curveballs (the slightly more melodic "Wavy" and the rock-to-it groove of "Starflyer Milez") help to switch up the record's otherwise fairly singular sound, a slightly wider musical approach would have been welcome.
