Patrick Watson Announces New Album 'Wave'

He's also mapped out a North American tour and shared the lead single "Dream for Dreaming"

Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson has announced that his next album is titled Wave, and it will crash ashore on October 18 via Secret City Records.

The LP marks the full-length follow-up to 2015's Love Songs for Robots and his sixth studio album overall.

According to a press release, Wave takes its name from the feeling of getting knocked over by bad news and learning how to not drown in the aftermath. It was inspired by a series of events over the last few years, including the death of Watson's mother, the departure of his longtime drummer, and the separation with the songwriter's partner.

"It's the difference between singing a solo at a stranger's grave as a child and singing one at your own mother's funeral," he said in a statement about the new album.

This time around, his band features Joe Grass (guitar), Evan Tighe (drums) and Mishka Stein (bass). They'll embark on a tour in support of the new material later this year and in early 2020. See the upcoming dates below.

The tracklisting for Wave is also available below. It features previously shared singles "Melody Noir" and "Broken," as well as the newly unveiled album opener "Dream for Dreaming."
