Has the widespread critical reappraisal of Nickelback gone far enough yet? Apparently not; once we get rollin', we can't seem to stop honouring the Hanna, AB-formed quartet in all their buttrockin' glory.
Following their induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at this year's JUNO Awards and NMC Exhibition, the 'back have now gotten a star on Vancouver's Granville Street StarWalk — coinciding with their induction into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame.
The Albertans were quickly adopted by the neighbouring practice, with Chad Kroeger recalling their first time recording a demo in North Vancouver in 1995 at the induction ceremony. "Suddenly, we had two provinces that we were from and referred to very affectionately," the frontman reflected ahead of their Vancouver stop on their North American tour yesterday (June 28).
Nickelback's star is located on the 800 block of Granville Street, between the Orpheum and Commodore theatres and next to those of fellow Canadian royalty, Michael J. Fox and Sarah McLachlan.
BC Entertainment Hall of Fame President Bill Allman told CBC that the band "built their career" in British Columbia, recording their early albums and playing clubs and bars across the province. (Kroeger also co-founded the Vancouver-centric 604 Records in 2002.) They join over 300 other inductees the organization has recognized "for their significant contribution to the province's entertainment industry and cultural landscape."
