Being a Lorde fan takes resilience, especially when it comes to waiting on new material. On average, the pop singer releases a new album every four years — and now we're finally getting some answers as to why.

In an interview for Vogue's "73 Questions" series, the singer explained she has to "go and live my life so that I have stuff to write about" before heading back into the studio.

She elaborated: "It's just sort of mooching and taking time."

When asked what she does during her breaks, Lorde answered, "I like to cook and I like to be very available for my friends and family because I miss a lot of birthdays when I'm working."

During the interview, she also shared more details about her forthcoming third studio album Solar Power — which she described as "reverent" — and her decision to not release the album on CD.

"Everything that I make physically, I want it to be something that I would have in my house, and I don't have any CDs at my house," Lorde explained.

Solar Power is set to be released on August 20. As previously reported, the artist is scheduled to support the album on her 2022 world tour, which will make a few stops in Canada. You can see the full schedule here.
