It's been a big week of Vampire Weekend-adjacent news — we're still trying to figure out what OGWAU means — so it's only right that Bells Larsen chose today to share his cover of Rostam's 2017 solo hit "Bike Dream."
The track is Larsen's first release since dropping his EP If I Am, I Was last summer, and the Montreal singer-songwriter says that it was a natural choice for his next single.
"Rostam is one of my favourite songwriters and producers ... The lush yet epic quality of his music never ceases to make me feel like I’m in a dream. That’s why – of course – I love 'Bike Dream' in particular," Larsen wrote in a press release. "The song’s lyrics place you in a very specific moment in time while the production (of the original) instills this flourishing sensation of timelessness in your chest. I put my own folky spin on the tune with guitar and doubled-vocals but also tried to maintain the dreaminess of the original with the help of Thanya Iyer’s violin."
Larsen's cover comes complete with a self-directed music video filmed in Montreal — which you can watch below — showing him wheeling a bike through the city's snow-laden streets.
